How long have you been in the Asheville area?
I am a native of Asheville born and raised. I grew up in the Arden/South Asheville area where I went to T.C. Roberson High School and Blue Ridge Community College.
Tell us about your family.
I am married to my husband Derek who attended APCS from Pre-k to 8th and continued to MPA. We have three beautiful girls, Jayda who attends MPA, Angelina and Bayleigh who attend APCS. I have an amazing and large extended family that lives here in the mountains and stretches all the way to the Bahamian Islands.
How did you first get connected with APCS?
My Husband’s family has been a part of APCS and MPA since the 70’s. Many cousins, sisters, brothers, and Fathers have walked the halls here, so naturally this is where we wanted our children to grow up learning. My oldest started school here in 2018 with my middle one to follow in 2019 and then my youngest in 2020. Over the summer I reached out to Erin Miller to see if there were any job opportunities for the new school year and to my surprise there were a few things that I knew I would love to do.
What preparation did you have for your role at APCS?
I received my credentials in Early Childhood Education in 2008, and have worked in many positions throughout the public school system, as well as preschools. I am currently pursuing my B.S. in Psychology through Grand Canyon University online, and will graduate in December of 2024.
I’ve been able to connect with many teachers, and see the passion and love that they have for their jobs, the children, and the word of God. I am blessed to be a part of a school that is constantly growing. It takes a lot of behind the scenes work to keep the school running.
What do you hope for APCS?
I hope that APCS continues to grow and guide young children on their journey through life. These are the foundation years in a young child’s life, and knowing that APCS is not only giving them a strong academic foundation, they are giving them a strong Christian foundation. That gives me much hope for the future of not just my children but every child that walks through these doors.
What are your hobbies?
When I am not doing schoolwork, I love to camp year round with my family, go to the lake, and swim in the summer. I am an aquarium enthusiast, and I have a 75 gallon fish tank that keeps me busy and entertained.
